New Director ID Verification Requirements
08 December 2025
New Director ID Verification Requirements from 18 November 2025
From 18 November 2025, the rules at Companies House have changed: individuals appointed as directors (or Persons with Significant Control, PSCs) of UK companies must now verify their identity before the appointment can be formalised.
What has changed
-
Any new director — whether for a new company or being added to an existing one — must complete an identity check before their appointment is accepted.
-
Once verified, the individual receives a unique personal identifier, often called a “personal code,” issued by Companies House.
Why this matters before your Confirmation Statement
-
For companies with a Confirmation Statement due on or after 18 November 2025, every director must have verified their identity and the personal code must be quoted when filing the Confirmation Statement.
-
If a director is also a PSC, the code may need to be submitted twice (once for the director role, once for the PSC role).
-
Without the required code(s), Companies House will not accept the Confirmation Statement.
What you need to provide to Evans Entwistle
-
As a new director, you must complete identity verification via the free GOV.UK One Login service.
-
Once verified, you’ll be issued with your Companies House personal code.
-
Provide that code to Evans Entwistle so they can include it when submitting your Confirmation Statement on behalf of the company.
Consequences for not complying
-
Without a verified director ID code, your Confirmation Statement cannot be filed — which may lead to non-compliance.
-
It’s effectively a legal requirement under the reforms introduced by the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act 2023.
In short: from 18 November 2025 onward, any new director must first verify their identity and receive a personal code. That code is then mandatory for the next Confirmation Statement.
